Slow Cooker Oatmeal

3/4 cup dried tart cherries
1 apple (peeled and grated) or 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
2 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1-1/2 cups water
1 cup uncooked steel cut oats
2 TB brown sugar (I use sucanat)
1-1/2 TB butter cut into 5-6 pieces (optional)
1/2 tsp almond extract
1 TB ground flax seed
1/4 tsp salt
optional garnishes : toasted sliced almonds, maple syrup, additional almond milk or butter

Coat inside of 3-1/2 qrt or larger slow cooker with cooking spray. Add all the ingredients except toppings.
Stir, cover and cook on low for 7 hours.

I used dried cranberries and apples, no butter, some walnuts, no extract, chia seeds instead of flax, no salt...I love this because it's oatmeal you can't really mess it up just keep the ratio pretty close and it works out.
