Bleach Solution, DIY Disinfecting Wipes

Unable to find Clorox or Lysol wipes in stores? Never fear! This is a cheap, easy life hack to make disinfecting wipes at home with things you already have. Ingredients: - 1 roll paper towels - 4 cups (1 qt) water - 4 tsp (20mL) household bleach (2.5 - 5%) - Container or bag UPDATE: We have received some comments we want to address: 1. The stability of dilute bleach can be variable. It is recommended to make a fresh solution daily. The ratio would be the same (1 tsp. bleach per cup water). You could keep the solution in a spray bottle and then use paper towels or rags to wipe it up. We go through these wipes quickly, but you might not. 2. In the video I mention using this dilute bleach solution to wipe down animal fur. This is perfectly safe AT THIS DILUTION, but never use full-strength bleach directly on animals. Even if the animal licks this diluted solution, there should be no harm. This is a 1:48 dilution, and stronger concentrations (1:32) are routinely recommended for use on animals. 3. The bleach used should be fresh and in date because even concentrated bleach loses 20% of its potency each year. 4. Bleach can break down in light, so an opaque container (instead of the clear one demonstrated) would be better. If the solution is being used quickly (as it should be) this is not likely a problem. 5. Commercial disinfecting wipes likely have no bleach in them and rely on other chemicals. That said, these dilute bleach wipes are a good, safe disinfectant. I wear gloves because I am handling full-strength bleach, but most people do not. Gloves should not be necessary after dilution. 6. Concentrated bleach is a potentially dangerous chemical and should NEVER be mixed with other chemicals, even scented oils, unless the combination has been approved. Bleach can cause damage to surfaces, clothing, skin, eyes, and can even start fires. Be careful and do not get creative. 7. The towels we use are commercial one-ply multi-fold towels. They do not seem to break down in the solution. Other towels may not perform the same way, so a test batch is recommended. 8. You should use a bleach that is 5-6% sodium hypochlorite in the bottle. 9. LEGAL: Nothing stated in the video, details, or comments should be construed as advice. Use at your own risk.
