1 bar of Fels Naptha
1 cup borax
1 cup washing soda
5 gallon bucket with lid
grater, pot and spoon from goodwill/dollar store that is only for soap making
Dissolve powders in bucket with warm water. Fill it with about 4 gallons of water.
Use a grater on the fels naptha.
Cook the shavings in a small pot with some water.
Stay with the pot because it likes to bubble over. Keep stirring it.
Add what's in the pot to your bucket and stir it in.
Fill the rest of the bucket with water and stir again. Close lid tightly.
Let rest overnight and the next day stir it up - there will probably be a layer of soap sitting on the top.
Use 1/2 cup per load.
*Keep borax in some kind of container where you can easily get out a 1/2 cup or so to add to loads to get rid of extra dirt or bad odors like musty towels.
*This saves me almost $200 a year. I also use dryer balls and sometimes use vinegar as a fabric softener.
